Julio Emilio Neira Milián born in 1969 in Sancti Spíritus, lives and works as a visual artist in Havana (Cuba).
After finishing Escuela Vocacional de Arte “Olga Alonso” (EVA), the High School of the Arts in Santa Clara in 1985, he graduated in 1989 from the Escuela Nacional de Arte Ciudad de La Habana, the National Art Academy in Havana, is a member of the Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) – the Cuban National Association of Writers and Artists – and of the Consejo Nacional de las Artes Plásticas de Cuba (CNAP). He works as a freelance artist in Havana and as a guest lecturer at Art Schools and Cultural Institutes in Cuba.
The work of Julio Neira, which comprises a broad range of genres like painting, graphics, sculpting, installation art, performances and murals, has been shown in numerous individual and group exhibitions both in Cuba, Mexico and other Latin American countries, in Spain, Germany and Italy and has been awarded prizes in several occasions. A number of sculptures and murals in large format have been created for the public space of his home town Sancti Spíritus.
Several of his works are part of the Colección del Consejo Nacional de las Artes Plásticas de Cuba and are included in private collections in Cuba, United States, Mexico, Germany, Martinique, Spain, Italy and Argentina.
